Resen Waves was founded in 2010 with the purpose of developing a cost-effective wave power buoy technology that could be commercial, starting in small scale, whilst having the potential of being increased to larger industrial-scale units in the future. Just as the wind turbines started in small scale and grew in incremental steps to large scale turbines, so will wave energy machines.
The founder and the technology team has extensive experience in development of large scale wave power devices and under water technology. This experience has been essential in developing Resen Waves’ unique technology and identify the unique business model of starting with small scale commercial wave power devices.
Below you will see the history of how the buoy concept developed from an early stage 2010 prototype to an industrial buoy in 2017.
Mr. Chris Olson from Texas exploited his passion about surfing and his know-how about waves to develop a wave energy concept. The 56th prototype set the standard for the patent and Mr. Chris Olson connected with Mr. Per Resen from Resen Energy in Denmark to…Read more
Resen Waves launch the first generation Smart Power Buoy in Indonesian tropical waters. A project on Bali to re-vitalize damaged coral reef used the first generation Smart Power Buoy as power source for Biorock installation. An important project for the vulnerable reef suffering from climate…Read more
The second generation Smart Power Buoy marks a completely new mechanical approach and is highly efficient when it comes to extracting energy from even small wave movements. The capacity factor is unmatched and the many resources invested in R&D have been fruitful. Next stage will…Read more
The Smart Power Buoy was recognised by Clean Energy Awards 2018 as best in stand-alone renewable solutions and most pioneering small-scale wave energy device. That attracted greentech investors and leading venture capital firm West Hill Capital acquired a considerable share of Resen Waves. Resen…Read more
The EUDP is a Danish funding scheme supporting the development and demonstration of new energy technologies, including wave energy, which can contribute to meeting Denmark’s objectives within energy and climate. The two year EUDP funding scheme allowed groundbreaking research. Resen Waves verified a numerical model…Read more
Chasing ambitous indicators such as best in class capacity factor and weight to power ratio forced Resen Waves to rethink the initial mechanical construction completely. The result is the second generation Smart Power Buoy which has proven unmatched results. With the final approvals from ocean…Read more
